Affiliate Disclosure

How this site earns money through affiliate links, and why that never decides what I recommend.

Best Trail Backpacks is free to read. It earns money through affiliate links, and this page explains how that works and what it doesn’t change.

The Short Version

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy through one, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commission never decides which products I recommend. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

What an Affiliate Link Is

An affiliate link carries a code that tells the store you came from Best Trail Backpacks. If you click it and buy something, you buy from that store directly, not from me, and the store pays me a small commission. Your price is the same as it would be without the link. Some programs also pay a commission on other items you buy during the same visit.

The Programs I Belong To

  • Amazon Associates, Amazon’s affiliate program.
  • AvantLink, Impact, CJ and Awin. These networks run affiliate programs for outdoor brands and retailers. When a brand or store I link to has a program through one of them and I’ve been accepted, a link to it may earn me a commission.

Which Links Earn a Commission

Not every link on this site does. Product buttons and links to stores, including Amazon, are usually affiliate links. Links to sources, such as a manufacturer’s sizing chart, an independent tester’s review or a park service safety page, are there so you can check where a claim comes from. Those usually earn nothing.

Every post with affiliate links says so in a short line at the top, with a link back to this page.

How Commission Fits With My Recommendations

I don’t test gear myself. I compare published specs and sizing, read independent tester reviews and look for what owners report again and again. A pick earns its place on that evidence, whether or not it pays a commission.

Where I send you to buy is a separate choice from what I recommend. I prefer the brand’s own store or a reputable outdoor retailer when they serve you well, and Amazon when it’s your best option for price, shipping or returns. Changing the store never changes the pick.

You can read more about how I work on the About page.

I don’t write sponsored posts. If that ever changes, the post will say so clearly at the top.
